In the early hours of last Sunday morning, 18th February 2018, 3 x persons broke into a home on Mangatawhiri Rd, Omaha. Both the husband and wife owners were asleep inside at the time.
The offenders removed various personal items, including credit cards, and the keys to an expensive motor vehicle parked outside. They then used the car keys to start the vehicle and drove off in it. The credit cards were then used several hours later (5.00am) at several Petrol Stations in Albany.
Insite Security were fortunate to obtain CCTV camera footage of these offenders ‘in action’ from another nearby property. However, due to the distance away, this was not sufficient to make a positive identification of these persons. Insite Security then reviewed the Causeway camera footage in the hope they could pick-up detail of the vehicle that the 3 offenders travelled into Omaha in.
Of obvious concern here is the fact that these persons had no apparent fear in entering an occupied Residence & helping themselves!
Police Scene of Crime staff attended at the property and it appears that the offenders also used gloves during the commission of these offences.
Update Tuesday 20Feb18
Insite Security were able to identify the vehicle used by these offenders to arrive at Omaha, from our CCTV cameras (this vehicle was also fitted with dodgy Registration plates).
Yesterday afternoon Auckland Police chased and apprehended a person driving the stolen vehicle taken from Omaha Sunday morning (it had been fitted with a set of stolen Rego plates – so these guys have been busy!).
A good outcome following some great work by local residents, Insite Security, and NZ Police.
However … it’s also a timely reminder regarding security of your property!
