If you are an Omaha Beach Community (‘OBC’) member, you should have received an email invitation to participate in our Rubbish & Recycling Survey. If you haven’t, please email us at email@example.com and let us know.
We think we have the Recycling sorted (or, it’s better, at least) … with additional weekly Recycling collections over the busy holiday / summer period. It certainly seemed to work well last summer, and the place was much tidier.
However we have a ways to go in relation to the Rubbish situation.
From feedback we have received, people are fed up with the orange rubbish bags, with some regularly putting them out on a Monday after the collection truck has been … and therefore remaining on the street for up to a week with the seagulls getting into them and making a hell of a mess. There’s also the issue of the plastic bags themselves, and having to go to landfill, and the damage they do to our environment.
Rubbish bins appear the best and most logical solution, and if we can get sufficient support Northland Waste will do us a very good deal on them (we don’t pay for the rubbish collection as part of our Council Rates). Yes, there’s the issue of bins being left out on the street, but we would hope others would bring in the bins for neighbours to still keep the place tidy.
There’s no perfect solution … but we need to know what you think.
If you haven’t already had your say by completing the Survey, please do so. It will only take you 4-5 minutes tops.
Again, if you haven’t received the email about the Survey … let us know and we’ll send you the link.
