Update at 12.30 pm Saturday – Hold on, Southerners!
Our hard-working Murray@OBC has been in regular contact with Council again this morning.
Whilst the Council’s contractor was able to make a start on the Recycling collections early this morning, from where they ended in Northern Omaha yesterday, they’ve been unable to complete collections in the Southern end of Omaha. With having to empty the truck again, due to the volume of Recycling, the traffic congestion has meant the driver is going to run out of log book hours to do another return trip to Omaha today.
Auckland Council has confirmed to the OBC that the next collection, for all of Omaha, will be next Tuesday, 3 January 2023. However, to assist with the volume of Recycling yet to be collected in the Southern end, arrangements have been made for the contractor to not only empty the Recycling bins in the Southern end, but to also collect Recycling from containers placed alongside the Recycling wheelie bins. This collection from other than the Council’s Recycling wheelie bins is a one-off.
The situation is unfortunate, and not what we had planned. However, some things are outside of our control.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year from the Omaha Beach Community Inc.
However the Omaha Beach Community Inc. (OBC) has been in further discussions with Council late this afternoon, and Council has advised the truck will return to Omaha tomorrow, Saturday 31 December, to complete the Recycling collection. We understand those Recycling bins yet to be emptied are essentially in the Southern end.
Please remember that the lids on the Recycling bins must be closed (to avoid spillage when lifted into the truck); and Recycling will only be taken from the Council wheelie bins (no other containers, will be emptied).
The additional Recycling (and Rubbish) collections over this Christmas / New Year holiday period are arranged by the OBC for its members in Omaha, and are one of the many benefits (which also include the security patrols) that membership, and payment of the yearly OBC subs, provide.”
