As you may recall in our summer newsletter we received a grant from Kiwibank Predator Free Communities Trust. We received 20 Good Nature possum traps, 40 DOC 200 stoat and rat traps and 40 rat traps.
We deployed the rat and stoat traps in mid February mainly along a line behind the houses in Tawharanui Rd facing the Golf Course and some stoat traps near the quarry pathway. The are also 3 in Paraoa Crescent in private properties. So far we have caught over 100 mice, 13 rats and 8 stoats and weasels.
The Department of Conservation has also given us a grant of $1,000 to purchase more traps and we are currently in the process of completing the paperwork for DOC to be able to use the Good Nature possum traps on their land in the bush at the southern end of the Golf Course.
Auckland Council are also helping us with a comprehensive report and will be implementing a targeted trapping plan in the next two months.
Below are a sample of our prized catches.
