Following the recent rates increase imposed by Council on Omaha ratepayers, OBC (Omaha Beach Community Inc) has sent a formal request to Councillor Greg Sayers to ask for a detailed explanation and justification for the increases. Many Omaha owners have seen their property values increase by 12-15% but their rates have increased by as much as 30-35%.
This is manifestly unfair and in no way links to the average increase across Auckland of less than 6%. Consequently, we’ve asked Council to do two things:
1. Provide a detailed justification to Omaha ratepayers for these increases. This needs to be more than the standard PR response.
2. Review the situation with a view to resetting the increases to a more realistic level.
We are now awaiting a response from Council and will keep everyone informed.
